Rogues have been amazing in terms of PvE during WOW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 1, but when we enter Phase 2, there will be an entirely different PvP landscape. As a passionate Rogue player during Season 1, I can confirm how our toolkit has grown and filled gaps after previous expansions.

↖ The Game Changer: 31-Point Talents

All classes are getting powered up by Introduction of 31-point talents. These include Beastial Wrath, True Shot Aura and Wyvern Sting for Hunters. Priests unlock Shadow Form; Druids get Moonkin while Mages now have access to more powerful spells. However, its only Rogue class that stands out for me mostly in phase two.

↖ Rogue – Master of PvP Control

Historically speaking rogues excel at controlling fights but lack good gap-closers. This aspect is significantly improved by Between the Eyes runes introduced in Phase II. Currently rogue toolkit has six abilities which stun or CC the target: Sap, Blind, Gouge, Kidney Shot and one new spell Cheap Shot plus Between the Eyes. With such set combined with talents like Evasion or Sprint, Rogues will definitely be crowned as kings of PvP in SoD.

↖ Rogue's Combo Playstyle in PvP

Sapping into a Backstab followed by a Gouge then another Backstab gives three combo points alone leading to either a 4-second Kidney Shot or a 3-second stun with Between the Eyes. Then, Rogue can vanish and use Cheap Shot again for gaining more combo points and continuing stun lock. These Rogues will be augmented with talents like Evasion or Sprint to unleash a never-ending cycle of stuns and combo points.

↖ PvE Prospects: Rogues and Warriors, with Mages on the Rise

In PvE, Rogues and Warriors have always been neck-and-neck, with Warriors slightly ahead. However, this competition might intensify in Phase 2, maybe with Fire Mages becoming serious contenders. With runes such as Living Flame and Burnout; plus abilities like Combustion and Firepower; fire mages might start being seen at the top of damage meters more often than before.
