Runescape Wilderness Released Major Changes

The Runescape Wilderness is a large and dangerous region in north-eastern Gielinor, making up nearly the entirety of the area with the exception of the Daemonheim peninsula. It is infamous for being arguably the most perilous area in all of Gielinor and is home to many different foes that become increasingly more powerful the deeper you go. It offers many lucrative combat and skilling opportunities, albeit with a greater risk of death. The Wilderness is a PvP area only for those who opt-in to PvP by speaking to Vala in Edgeville and death works differently depending on whether or not the player opted-in to PvP. Players should be cautious when entering the Wilderness as it is considered to be a high-risk area and it is advised to not bring items they are reluctant to part with. Jagex has recently released several major changes to the Wilderness and its surrounding areas.

Runescape Wilderness Released Major Changes

The first change is the removal of the Frets system, which was not popular among players and developers alike. As a result, Volcanic Attacks and Ambush Spawns have been eliminated from the Wilderness. Bonus Threat Items have been rendered useless, but can still be high-arched for some Runescape Gold. Cursed Wisps have also been removed from the game

All of the cursed energy will automatically be converted to regular energy on June 5th and is untradeable. This is being done as Cursed Wisps are a popular method of tricking players into PvP and are not a relevant trading method for those who do not have PvP turned on.

The Wilderness Flash Events have also been changed. The cooldown time between rewards has increased from 10 minutes to 50 minutes. Generic bags now give reduced Necromium Salvage and special loot bags have had a major overhaul with regard to rewards. The chance of receiving those pesky common dragon rider boots and gloves has been reduced, but the chance of receiving Dark Cores has been increased. If a player completes a Wilderness Flash Event with a full inventory and bank, their reward bag will be stored in a temporary inventory at the Wilderness Event host NPC, but will not be kept upon logging out.

In addition, a few monster spawns have been moved around the Wilderness, including the Ash Lords and Berserkers, which are now found near the Volcano and Elite Dungeon 2 entrance. Ripper Demons now use their special attack inside the Wilderness, even if you haven’t attacked them first. This renders the AoE method that was used to fight them useless. The Wilderness Slayer master is now even more useless as players no longer gain extra Slayer points. Rolling Gloves no longer function the way they used to and are no longer obtainable outside of the Wilderness.

The Prayer Brawling Gloves are now stacking with the Powdered Brawls in an interesting way. Charming Moth base Hunter and Agility experience has been reduced, but the Demonic Skulls bonus to the Charming Moths has been increased from a 20% bonus to 40%. Bloodwood Trees now function the same in and outside the Wilderness and are buffed by the Inferno Puzzle Box. There have also been several lighting fixes, including the Ripper Demon Cave and the Sovereign Slayer Dungeon

Finally, Jagex has recently nerfed several things, including the Wilderness Flash Events and the High Level Safe Cracking experience rates. They have also doubled the respawn time on the Safes, from 5 to 10 minutes. This affects both the AFK version at Level 90 Thieving and the active Safe Cracking run at Level 94 Thieving. Jagex has also announced upcoming balance changes to the Animedead Spell and the Fractured Staff of Armadillo.
