Roller Champions is a new sports game from Ubisoft Montreal that features a fictional sport where elements of Roller Derby skating are mixed with basketball. Matches are played online in circular arenas where two teams of three players try to score points by throwing a ball in an arc. Next, see the main questions that users may have about the new game, such as the rules, if it has crossplay, or if it is possible to play offline and the platforms on which it is available.
What are the Roller Champions' rules?
In Roller Champions, the team in possession of the ball must complete a lap of the track by passing through four "gates" marked before the turns to open the goal and be able to shoot. The gates can be activated from either side, and there is no need to always stay in one direction. Upon completing a round and hitting the goal, the team scores one point, but it is possible to complete two and three games for three and five points. The defending team can take the ball away from opponents with lunges and block shots with super jumps, called hooks. Each match lasts seven minutes and the team that first reaches five points, or whoever has the most points at the end of time, wins.
Does it only work online?
Roller Champions requires a permanent internet connection and a Ubisoft account to play and save your progress. Unfortunately, there are no offline modes or games with bots where the player can train if they are offline. When trying to access the game without the Internet, it will not be possible to go beyond the title screen, where an error message will be displayed.
It is available on which platforms?
Roller Champions is now playable on PlayStation 5 ( PS5 ), Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4 ( PS4 ), Xbox One, and PC via the Ubisoft Store. The game is also developing for Nintendo Switch and Android and iPhone ( iOS ) phones, still without a set release date. The PS5 and Xbox Series, X /S versions, run backward compatibility and therefore don't enjoy much of the power of the new consoles.
Is it paid?
Roller Champions is free to play but features content that can be purchased in-game via its "Roller Pass Premium" battle pass and a pay-for-item shop with "Wheels", the game's virtual currency. When purchasing the pass, players receive quests that guarantee items as a reward. They allow you to customize your skater, but they are cosmetic only and do not affect gameplay. The Roller Pass also offers a free battle pass, which provides fewer perks.
Do you have Cross-play?
Roller Champions has Cross-play between all platforms and promises to keep it when it releases for Nintendo Switch, Android, and iPhone ( iOS ). Additionally, the game is also cross-progression via your Ubisoft account. This means that even on different platforms, login and all progress will be there to continue playing.
