Complete Guide to Fast Obtaining Shadow Gems in Pokémon GO

In this guide, we will delve into the details of obtaining and utilizing Shadow Gems in Pokémon GO. From understanding the mechanics of Shadow Pokémon to earning Shadow Shards and creating Purified Gems, we'll cover all the essential information you need to know. So let's get started!

Complete Guide to Fast Obtaining Shadow Gems in Pokémon GO

Event Details

The event revolves around Shadow Pokémon and their increased power during raids. Only three and five-star raid Shadow Pokémon become enraged, boosting their attack and defense stats. When a Shadow Pokémon reaches half health and enters the yellow zone, it becomes enraged. To counter this, Purified Gems can be used to restore them to their non-enraged state.

Earning Shadow Shards

Shadow Shards are crucial for creating Purified Gems. Here's how you can earn them:

  • One-Star Raids: Participating in one-star raids guarantees one Shadow Shard.
  • Defeating Grunts: Each encounter with a Team GO Rocket grunt rewards you with one Shadow Shard.
  • Defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders: Taking down a Team GO Rocket Leader grants three Shadow Shards.
  • Defeating Giovanni: Defeating Giovanni himself yields four Shadow Shards.

Creating Purified Gems

Once you have accumulated enough Shadow Shards, you can convert them into Purified Gems using the Gym Refiner. It takes four Shadow Shards to create one Purified Gem. The maximum number of Purified Gems you can hold at a time is ten.

Shadow Pokémon Spawns

During the event, several Shadow Pokémon will be available in the wild. Keep an eye out for Ekans, Koffing, Houndour, Poochiana, Stunky, and Skorupi. Additionally, if you're lucky, you may encounter a Hisuian Quillfish or Scrappy.

Shadow Pokémon Raids

Certain Pokémon will appear in raids as Shadow Pokémon, providing an opportunity to capture and purify them. Here are the Shadow Pokémon available in raids:

  • One-Star Raids: Poliwag, Machop, Bellsprout, and Beldum.
  • Three-Star Raids: Beldum, Quilava, Croconaw, and Sneasel.
  • Non-Shadow Raids: Clefable, Clefairy, Tentacruel, Marill, Skrelp, and Palpitoad (Three-Star Raids), Lapras and Mawile (Five-Star Raids), and Empoleon (Mega Raids).

Quest Tasks

To progress in the event, complete the following tasks:

  • Defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts.
  • Catch ten Poison-type Pokémon.
  • Catch ten Dark-type Pokémon.
  • Win a raid.

Once you complete these tasks, you will receive a Master Ball as a reward.

Shadow Mewtwo Encounter

Shadow Mewtwo will be available in raids for a limited time. The encounter period is from May 27th at 10 a.m. to May 28th at 8 p.m. local time. Coordinate with other players to form raid groups and challenge Shadow Mewtwo before the event ends.

Last-Minute Tips

If you're unable to join a raid group or lack players in your area, consider the possibility of an Apex Mewtwo release in the future. While not confirmed, Niantic has introduced Apex forms for Lugia and Ho-Oh, so it's worth keeping an eye out for a potential Apex Mewtwo with powerful moves.

Conclusion

Now that you have a comprehensive understanding of Shadow Gems and the associated mechanics, you can make the most of the Pokémon GO event. Earn Shadow Shards, create Purified Gems, and take on Shadow Pokémon raids to enhance your collection. Whether you decide to pursue Shadow Pokémon or wait for potential future releases, enjoy the event and have fun exploring the world of Pokémon GO!
