RuneScape 3 Desperate Creatures Quest Guides
Welcome to guide to the Desperate Creatures quest on RuneScape 3. This quest has only one requirement, which is completing the quest Desperate Measures. There are no specific items needed, but I recommend having some teleports available to Anachronia. You'll need to visit Anachronia multiple times throughout the quest, but if you don't have teleports, you can use the lodestone instead. Although not necessary, having quick access to either the Max Guild boss portal or the War's Retreat boss portal will be helpful. You can easily teleport to these locations using a Max Cape, the Draynor Village lodestone, or an Amulet of Glory.
To start the quest, go to the area near the Birth or Blowstone shown by the yellow marker on this map. Speak to the curator, who is located just north of the lodestone. Select option 2 to accept the quest and option 1 to ignore the next set of Champions. Speak to the curator again and select options 2 and 1 to receive the Tome of Tracking, which is the most important item for this quest. Make sure you get it!
Teleport to Anachronia and head west from the lodestone. The majority of this quest revolves around using the Tome of Tracking. Click on the tome and select "Track" to find out the number of steps and the direction you need to go. Simply follow the directions and spam click the tome as you run. Keep an eye out for any direction changes indicated by yellow markers on the map I've provided. The markers show where the tome led me, but it may not be exactly the same for everyone. However, it should be within the general area.
Once you reach the designated location indicated by the tome, click on the tome again to receive a message in your chat box. The message should say something like, "You find a suitable specimen and store it away." It's crucial to receive this message every time. If you don't, continue following the directions until you do. Repeat this process three more times, and I've marked my four locations on the map, numbering them based on the order the tome took me to them.
By the way, the specimens you find are not actual items that go into your inventory. That's why it's essential to receive the message in the chat box. When you reach the fourth location, you should overhear a conversation between Hannibus and Vindicta. Finish that up to receive the fourth specimen.
Once you have all four specimens, return to the curator north of the Birthorpe lodestone. Speak to the curator and select options 2 and 1. Speak to the curator again and select options 2 and 1 once more. Teleport back to Anachronia. From the lodestone, you'll find four new locations by using the Tome of Tracking once again. I've marked all four locations on the map in the order that I visited them. They are all around the main camp on Anachronia. Mr. Mordoch should speak to you at the fourth location. Finish that conversation to get the fourth specimen.
Return to the curator north of the Birthorpe lodestone once again. Speak to the curator twice and select options 2 and 1 both times. Now, you'll head to an area in Anachronia shown by the yellow marker on the map. There are three ways to get there, and it's important to pay attention to all three options, regardless of which one you can actually use. You'll have opportunities to use them a couple more times later, and some options may be more suitable for different situations.
Option 1: If you have unlocked the teleport to the lodestone, run east to the teleportation device and use it to teleport to the ritual site. Then, exit using the stairs along the south wall.
Option 2: If you can use the Max Guild boss portal or War's Retreat boss portal, you can retune one of the portals to teleport to something called "Rex Matriarchs." This will be helpful two more times during the quest, so it's worth the effort. The Max Guild boss portal is located in the Max Guild, behind the bank on the east side. Retune your portal to Rex Matriarchs and teleport there. To get to War's Retreat, first go to Draynor Village using a lodestone and then a few steps north of the lodestone, interact with the War's Insignia. The portals are to the north. Retune the portal to Rex Matriarchs and teleport there. The only problem with using the one at War's Retreat is that you need to get at least one kill to use it. Regardless, once you get to Rex Matriarchs, run to the very west side where you'll find a teleportation device. Use that to go back to Anachronia.
Option 3: Regardless of whether you used the previous options, you can walk from the camp by following the yellow path I've drawn on the map to the yellow marker. If you teleported to Rex Matriarchs, you'll be close to the green marker, but you'll still have to walk a bit. The green line at the bottom of the map is for those who teleported to the ritual site. Head to the yellow marker because that's where the first location should be, or at least it was for me.
Again, feel free to pause the article if you need to. Now, you'll use the Tome of Tracking once more to find all four locations, which I've marked on the map. Number 1 on this map is the same location as the yellow marker on the previous map, so if you followed that, you should already be there. Track using the tome to get the specimen, and then move on to number 2. Zero should speak to you at the fourth location, so finish that conversation to get the fourth specimen.
Go back to the curator in Birthorpe. Speak to the curator once, then select options 2 and 1. Head inside the building to the north and climb the staircase in the northeast corner. Select option 1 ("Yes") and speak to Sarin. Select option 1 to talk about "Desperate Creatures." Climb down the stone staircase in the northeast corner and go back to the curator near the lodestones in the south. Speak to the curator and select option 2 to talk about "Desperate Creatures."
