Eaglehorn Stats

Eaglehorn can drop as either an Ancestral or Sacred item, but it's advisable to aim for the Ancestral version due to its higher item power, which directly influences weapon damage, a crucial factor for your main weapon.

Here are its key stats

  • Damage to Distant Enemies: 60%
  • Critical Strike Chance: Ranging from 5.4% to 15%.
  • Vulnerable Damage: Varies between 37.5% to 58.5%.
  • Physical Damage: Fluctuates from 34.5% to 52.5%.
  • Damage to Elites: Falls between 49.5% to 70.5%.

If you're lucky, you might obtain an Eaglehorn with an impressive 925 item power, 15% Critical Strike chance, 58.5% Vulnerable Damage, 52.5% Physical Damage, and a staggering 80% chance for penetrating shots, which we'll discuss shortly.

Acquiring Eaglehorn

To acquire Eaglehorn, you'll need to face the Beast in the Ice, a unique monster with a special chance to drop this bow. As of version 1.21, it remains the sole source for obtaining Eaglehorn.

Eaglehorn's Unique Effect: Penetrating Shot

Eaglehorn's special effect, Penetrating Shot, introduces a fascinating gameplay mechanic. It provides a 45% base chance, which can go as high as 80%, of firing an arrow that bounces off walls and scenery, damaging up to five enemies. Striking five enemies with this penetrating shot will make the next cast apply a Vulnerable status to the hit enemies for 3 seconds. This essentially grants you a free Vulnerable status application.

Utilizing Penetrating Shot

Penetrating Shot is your primary skill when using Eaglehorn, and it excels at clearing dense groups of monsters. The more enemies you hit with this skill, the greater the damage output. However, it's worth noting that this skill tends to underperform in single-target scenarios.

The bouncing effect of Penetrating Shot is most effective in enclosed areas, where it can bounce off walls repeatedly, dealing significant damage to multiple foes. In open areas, where there's nothing to bounce off, its effectiveness diminishes.

Is Eaglehorn the Best Choice for Penetrating Shot Build?

While Eaglehorn offers a unique gameplay style, it comes with a trade-off. As a two-handed weapon, it occupies a slot that could otherwise be used for a potent two-handed aspect. This raises the question of whether the bow's unique effect compensates for the loss of a powerful two-handed aspect.

Depending on your build, you have several options for two-handed aspects, such as Icy Alchemist Loop, Corruption Aspect, or others. These aspects can provide various benefits and modifiers, which might make them more appealing than Eaglehorn for your specific build.

The decision ultimately comes down to your playstyle and goals. If you favor the AOE strengths of Penetrating Shot and enjoy the bouncing effect, Eaglehorn might be your best choice. However, if you require more versatility or prefer stronger single-target damage, other options could be more suitable.

In conclusion, Eaglehorn is a fascinating and unique choice for Rogue characters in Diablo 4, tailored specifically for Penetrating Shot builds. It's essential to weigh its strengths and weaknesses against other two-handed aspects to determine whether it's the best fit for your character.
