LG Uplus participated in the government's 3.4 ~ 3.42Hz band 20MHz width 5G frequency additional allocation. As a result, it is expected to be a signal of network investment for quality competition based on the same 5G frequency acquisition among the three telecommunications companies.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 4th, LG Uplus only submitted an application for frequency allocation at 6 pm on the day.

If LG Uplus secures this frequency, it will have a 100MHz width of 5G frequency, such as rival SK Telecom and KT.

The difference in quality of communication service is inevitably due to the frequency secure amount, so if the three telecommunications companies secure the same frequency, it will be in full-fledged quality competition.

SK Telecom and KT can also secure additional frequencies, but they did not participate in the allocation application in consideration of the limitations of using non-reclaimed frequency aggregation technology (CA).

On the other hand, LG Uplus can be used immediately by matching allocation conditions as the additional frequency is adjacent to the existing frequency.

Although it is an auction assignment, it is converted to a price allocation method, not auction, according to LG Uplus's single bid. The government's calculation price is 152.1 billion won, the same as the auction minimum competitor.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will start reviewing the qualifications for LG Uplus, and plans to form an allocation committee this month to conduct an allocation screening.

If LG Uplus acquires an additional 5G frequency as a result, the frequency usage period is until November 30, 2028, when the conventional end of use.

The frequency allocation will be available from November 1, but LG Uplus, which has a adjacent band frequency, can only use the frequency of 15,000 radio stations.

These allocation conditions are also expected to lead to competition for network investment of three telecommunications companies. If LG Uplus is building additional radio stations, competitors are expected to expand investment in 5G radio stations in terms of quality competition.

LG Uplus said, We will contribute to improving the quality of service and improving user benefits by securing additional 5G frequencies.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom, who did not participate in the frequency auction, again revealed the request for additional frequency allocation in the 3.7㎓ band.

SK Telecom said, We decided to absent from the 3.4 GHz band frequency auction after a long time. We plan to continue consultation with the government regarding the frequency of (3.7 GHz band), which we requested to improve national benefits and revitalize investment.
