Star Wars: The Old Republic Gear Sources and Upgrading Guides

Gearing Sources

There are several sources of gear available in SWTOR. These include Story Mode and Veteran Mode Flashpoints, Veteran Mode Operations, R4 Anomaly Operation, and the new Legendary Implants.

Story Mode Flashpoints

Story Mode Flashpoints drop blue gear of item rating 264. This gear is not upgradeable, so it is best to replace it as soon as possible.

Veteran Mode Flashpoints

Veteran Mode Flashpoints drop blue gear of item rating 290. This gear can be upgraded to item rating 330 by trading in tokens at the vendor in the Supply Section of the Fleet.

Veteran Mode Operations

Veteran Mode Operations drop blue gear of item rating 306. This gear can be upgraded to item rating 340 by trading in tokens at the vendor in the Supply Section of the Fleet.

R4 Anomaly Operation

The R4 Anomaly Operation drops two types of gear. Story Mode drops blue gear of item rating 328, which can be upgraded to item rating 340 by trading in tokens at the vendor in the Supply Section of the Fleet. Veteran Mode drops blue gear of item rating 322, which can be upgraded to item rating 340 by trading in tokens at the vendor in the Supply Section of the Fleet. In addition, the R4 Anomaly Operation drops purple Artifact Quality gear of item rating 340 from the boss token.

Legendary Implants

Legendary Implants are unlocked by completing a quest from Londar Edwin in the Supply Section of the Fleet. Once unlocked, they can be purchased from the vendor Start in the Supply Section of the Fleet. Legendary Implants go up to maximum item rating of 334, and start at item rating 326. Once one character has two Legendary Implants at item rating 330 or higher, an achievement is unlocked, allowing all Legendary Implants to be purchased from item rating 326 to item rating 330 for a reduced cost of 2500 tech tags. When both Legendary Implants are upgraded to item rating 334, they can be purchased from 334 to item rating 334 for a reduced cost.

Tacticals

Tacticals are purchased from the vendor in the Supply Section of the Fleet. They cost 3,000 tech fragments and 1 million SWTOR credits, and give a special ability or bonus that makes the character more powerful. Most classes will want to pick up a Tactical before picking up their Legendary Implants, as they don't have to be upgraded.

Upgrading Gear

Once you have obtained your first set of gear, it is time to start upgrading it.

Prototype Modification quest

The best way to do this is to start with the 330 Prototype Modification quest from the vendor Hyde in the Supply Section of the Fleet. This quest rewards you with a boost to your gear and makes it easier to upgrade.

R4 Anomaly Story Mode

The easiest way to get a piece of Prototype Gear to upgrade is by doing R4 Anomaly Story Mode. Each boss killed will drop a token, which can be used to purchase a 328 Prototype Gear and upgrade it to 330 Prototype.
