Maah Lopez: My big goal is to open spaces for more people like me

The professional career of eSports presenter, commentator and streamer Math Lopez in the middle is still, in his own words, quite recent, but the passion for games is old and, since 2019, has been in a constant upward curve of recognition and visibility. It all started when Math Lopez started a Facebook Lives routine and, months later, signed a contract with Facebook Gaming, after being convinced that he had been contacted by representatives of the social network, and not a scammer who would try to steal personal information her.

Growth as a content creator Math became an increasingly known person, especially in the scenario of Free Fire, a game in which she worked as a host and commentators of competitions such as the Alok Championship and the azilian League of Free Fire (LBFF). In 2022, Math also became a presenter of VCT Game Changers, the largest championship of Valorant's female scene in azil, and ands ambassador like Lenovo-Sendo one of the main figures of the project everyone plays, focused on diversity and inclusion and the apothecary, integrating the Heroines Project of the game.

In an interview with MGG azil during BGS 2022, Math talked about professional growth in the last 3 years and revealed to have as a great goal to see, in the present and future, more people like her in the future. Although it recognizes many advances and greater representativeness today in the gaming universe, with greater women, black people and the LGBTQIA + community than in 2019, she emphasizes that the way to a more egalitarian scenario is still long.

The beginning of the career

Math Lopez says she has always been a fan of the games, but the adulthood commitments have made her distance themselves from this universe for a few years. Initially, Facebook Lives were a hobby, but then streamer gained visibility and eventually became a caster of two of Free Fire events in azil: the Alok Championship and LBFF. Since then, Math has not left the electronic sports scene and celeates the visibility she has achieved.

I started my career there in 2019, as Facebook Streamer. I was always from the games, but a time came in adulthood that demanded this distance. But it came to me at that time the need to return and have the chance To be able to interact with other people, and shortly thereafter I signed my first professional contract in the area. Since then, I was able to stay in the electronic sports scene, and the visibility that the Lives gave me made other levels. I was invited by Alok to Be a commentator of his championships, and all this ten reaches the visibility I have today. It is only 3 years old, but there has been a lot of good and a lot of big stuff in my life in this period, says Math.

After leaving the LBFF oadcast team at the end of 2021, Math Lopez began working as a host of other games, especially VCT Game Changers and Valiant and the first official Honor of Kings championship in azil, Which champion will qualify for the MOB World Cup, the Honor of Kings Championship 2022, with a total awards of $10 million.

Matthew

LBFF was the first professional championship of my life where I worked as a commentator, besides the Alok championship, but I didn't have much experience yet, and I didn't even imagine this scenario, but it was something that ended up and added a lot to me. As it all happened very fast, I understood throughout this process which direction I wanted to give to my life and my career, and ended up taking a taste for the presentation. I have recently worked in Valiant championships and also in Honor of Kings, which is an Of the most played mobs in the world, and this migration of commentator/analyst to presenter was very good for me. It's my focus from now on, because I'm in a time to try a lot of new games, he projects.

Fight for inclusion and diversity

Ambassador of the Lenovo EVER YVO project, Math Lopez emphasizes that one of her greatest professional goals today is to contribute to the increase of diversity in the universe of electronic sports. The presenter observes positive transformations in recent years, citing the increase in diversity in BGS herself as a positive sign.

When I entered this scenario, I didn't see myself in most places, and it made me direct which way I wanted to go as a professional, and it took me a lot to the social issue, raising important flags and trying to make room for terms more people like me. That's why it was so important to add to this project, comments

In April I ended up becoming Lenovo's ambassador, and I think my role today as a professional is to ing more people with me, because it is a collective cause, something much bigger than me. My big goal is to share space with more with stories of life similar to mine. We need more women, more black people and LGBTQIA+ in our scenario, and fortunately we have progressed in this regard. We still have a lot to improve, but surely I saw a lot of advances in my 3 years. In that alone, and everything has been worth it.

Math Lopez also considers that the transformations that increased diversity in games and electronic sports is an irreversible trend. She stresses that she will continue to work for inclusion and always use the influence and visibility achieved in recent years to ing new names to the scenario, and believes that this will also be the movement of ands that are present in games, either directly (ands with gamers in general) or indirect (entrepreneurs not necessarily linked to this universe, but promote actions such as sponsorships to teams, players, events and content creators.

Personally, I've been feeling more and more realized in these 3 years, although 2 of them have been pandemic and with many basically online events. But in relation to BGS, for example, today I see a lot more women in prominent positions in Stage of the fair than in the 2019 edition, and we also have more diversity on other fronts. We have more black people, CDs, Lists, something I didn't see so much 3 years ago. Of course, it's a very long walk, and we still have a lot to advance, especially in the structures that create inequalities, but I think important transformations have happened and will continue to happen in the coming years. Even though it is a slow process, marks and community have realized the importance of diversity and inclusion in games, including the point of Even business view, he argues.

Today we have people like Black Will, a black man, who has grown up and has been on various BGS stages this year, and Lugholes, which is shining in the CBOL oadcast team, between so many other names. It is a pleasure for you to look at the scenario and see this transformation happening, and much due to the struggle of these people, one thing that comes from many and many years and is finally yielding fruit, he concludes.
